10/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 9 July, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini confirmed that the EU was ready to support the technical secretariat of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), and to cooperate with all the states party to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) with a view to implementation of the 27 June decision – "a crucial step towards preserving and upholding the global norm against the use of chemical weapons" (see EUROPE 12052). In the press release published at the end of her meeting with the director-general of the OPCW, Ahmet Üzümcü, Mogherini also underlined "the EU's continuous support of the effective implementation and universalisation of the CWC and substantive financial contribution to the core activities of the OPCW and its operations in Syria".
