On Thursday 5 July, the European Parliament approved the new mandate entrusted to the eu-LISA agency, the EU agency for the operational management of large scale IT systems.
The mandate, authorised by the European Parliament when it voted on the report by Monica Macovei (ECR, Romania) by 541 votes in favour, 71 against and 20 abstentions, aims to prepare eu-LISA for the interoperability of European IT systems. The agency will have to bring technical solutions. This will enable it to link systems like the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), the entry/exit system, the Schengen Information System (SIS) and the European Criminal Records Information System regarding third country nationals and stateless persons (ECRIS-TCN), and will help member states prepare for interoperability.
The EU Council still has to approve the mandate formally. It agreed on it with the European Parliament in May (see EUROPE 12027). (Original version in French by Solenn Paulic)
