05/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission is expected to return its decision in the 'Android case' within two to three weeks, according to our information. Readers may recall that the Commission sent Google a statement of objections on 20 April 2016 (see EUROPE 11536). This document accused the US giant of abusing its dominant position through restrictions placed upon manufacturers of mobile devices and mobile network operators. Manufacturers wishing to pre-install Google Play Store, Google's app shop for Android, were, according to the Commission, required to pre-install Google Search to make it their default search engine. If the decision is returned within two to three weeks, it will come nearly 13 months after another decision to fine Google the record amount of €2.42 billion in the 'Google Shopping' case (see EUROPE 11817).
