European Commission gives green light to planned acquisition of Sky by Comcast

On Friday 15 June, the European Commission approved the planned acquisition of Sky, the principal pay-TV operator in several member states of the EU, by Comcast, a US company that owns Universal Pictures and several television channels.

Both companies are principally active on the various markets in Germany, Austria, Ireland, Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain and are direct competitors for only a limited proportion of their services, namely the acquisition of television content and the...
