European Parliamentary committee's green light to new eu-LISA mandate

12/06/2018 (Agence Europe)On Monday 11 June, MEPs from the European Parliament's civil liberties committee (LIBE) approved the inter-institutional agreement in Strasbourg that was reached on 24 May on the new mandate for eu-LISA (the European Agency for the operational management of large-scale IT systems in the area of freedom, security and justice) which is due to prepare new rules on the interoperability of European IT systems (see EUROPE 12027).  Interoperability should enable the authorised police forces of the member states to find information on an individual held in these different databases using a single search.  The interoperability its still being discussed.  The MEPs approved this agreement by 47 votes in favour, 4 against and 6 abstentions, and it is due to be confirmed by the Parliament's plenary session in July.  (SP)
