12/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 12 June during a plenary session debate in Strasbourg, the President of the EPP group in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, from Germany, said that he was in favour of going to Washington to hold direct discussions with the US administration regarding the question of access to the US market. Mr Weber explained that “Europe must give its entire support to the Commission. US customs duties on aluminium and steel have been introduced without any reason. This is why the EU countermeasures are the right track to follow. We expect the Council to fully support these measures. If Jean-Claude Juncker were given the task of going to Washington to discuss a customs tariff free world, then this would be the right approach”. (EH)
