01/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – European Justice Commissioner Vĕra Jourová met Japanese data protection commissioner, Haruhi Kumazawa, in Japan this week with a view to speeding up political dialogue in this domain. Significant progress has been made over recent months notably with an agreement on solutions for bridging the differences between EU and Japanese systems. The two sides have agreed to intensify their work in order to complete procedures ‘as soon as possible,’ said the European Commission in a press release. The Commission aimed to have a decision of appropriateness in May in order to have this decision coincide with the entry into force of the economic partnership agreement (see EUROPE 11922). On Friday 1 June, the Commissioner was in South Korea to meet the president of the Korean Data Protection Authority, Lee Hyo-Seong. (MF)
