26/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 25 April, the European Parliament organised a conference on developing the digital future. This focused on investment for unblocking digitalisation and preventing the digital fracture, as well as promoting innovation and opportunities for European citizens and businesses. Parliament's President, Antonio Tajani, called for the revenues from the future tax on the digital platforms to be paid back to the post-2020 EU budget so that they can be used to “preserve European cultural identity”. The Commissioner for the Digital Economy, Mariya Gabriel, referred to the Commission objective of increasing EU investments by 70% in artificial intelligence so that this investment reaches a figure of €20 billion by 2020 which will be an annual amount thereafter (see EUROPE 12009). The Commissioner indicated that the investment seeks to “highlight our potential and support leading sectors - robotics and micro-nano-Electronics and those seeking to expand”. (SPj)
