26/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 26 April, there was a rumour that Mark Zuckerberg intended to accept the invitation from MEPs to address them on the Cambridge Analytica affair. This information was put online by Daniel Köster, a spokesperson for the EPP, on his Twitter Account. He stated that, “It is confirmed! Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg will come to European Parliament in May. But he has conditions. Parliament still looking for the right format for the hearing”. Facebook previously planned for its Vice President in charge of public affairs, Joel Kaplan, to substitute for him but this had not been appreciated by the MEPs at all (see EUROPE 12004). The negotiations between the group and the European Parliament on the parliamentary committees that will be involved, are still continuing, explained POLITICO. The president of ALDE, Guy Verhofstadt, immediately called for the LIBE committee to be responsible. (MF)
