26/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – During the visit to Cairo of European Commissioner for Energy and Climate Action Miguel Arias Cañete on Monday 23 April, the EU and Egypt signed a new protocol agreement for strategic cooperation in the area of energy. This updates their current cooperation on energy and fully reflects the EU's priority to implement a transition towards clean energy. "A new era in EU-Egypt relations has started, one which will tap into the immense potential in solar, wind and gas and open up huge investment opportunities", Cañete commented, calling for more reforms in Egypt to attract private investment in the renewable energy sectors and energy efficiency and for modernisation of the gas sector to make Egypt a new energy hub.
