13/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – The Council of Europe’s Venice Commission announced on Thursday 12 April that the draft Hungarian legislation known as ‘Stop Soros’ has been referred to it by the Council of Europe’s parliamentary assembly (PACE)’s commission of legal issues and human rights. The opinion of this committee of institutional law experts will be transmitted in June during the PACE plenary. It will be drawn up in cooperation with BIDDH, an institution for promoting human rights at the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). In February, the previous Human Rights Commissioner, Nils Muiznieks, shared his concerns about the Stop Soros draft law which targets organisations helping asylum seekers (see EUROPE 11962). (VL)
