06/03/2018 (Agence Europe) – In a letter dated Monday 5 March addressed to the European Parliament President, Antonio Tajani, 14 organisations working in the transport field, including the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC), the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) and the Transport&Environnement (T&E) organisation, called on the European Parliament to adopt a strong position to reduce the number of road accidents. On 2 May next, the European Commission will be proposing a 3rd “mobility" package that will focus on the revision of regulation 661/2009/EC on vehicle safety standards and the post-2020 road safety strategy. The coalition of organisations argues that updating vehicle safety standards is essential if they are to obtain improved road safety statistics. (LT)
