06/03/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission does not intend to unveil its new plans to reduce roaming costs in the Western Balkans. This is contrary to what a press release from the EPP suggested on 5 March. In the press release, the Christian Democrats announced a conference in which the Bulgarian Commissioner would “present a roadmap" in this regard. In reply to our questions, the Commission press service said that it had already presented a digital roadmap for the Western Balkans last February as part of its global strategy on 6 February (see EUROPE 11955). It is in this context that we were informed that Commissioner Mariya Gabriel is carrying out discussions with telephone operators regarding the telecommunications market situation in the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, FYROM, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo).
