15/11/2017 (Agence Europe) – The working group tasked with looking at ways of enforcing the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality was created on Tuesday 14 November. Its aim is to identify fields that may be reallocated to the member states and ways of increasing the involvement of regional and local authorities in drafting and implementing EU policies. The task force, to be chaired by the Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans, has nine other members: three representatives of national parliaments (appointed by the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union, COSAC), three representatives of the European Parliament and three more from the Committee of the Regions. The working group will present its recommendations by mid-July 2018 at the latest, to allow the EU to be more involved in areas in which it can add the most value. (MB)
