Shipowners and unions hoping for less red tape

10/11/2017 (Agence Europe)During the digital transport days event on Thursday 9 November, European shipowners represented by the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) and the European Transport workers’ Federation (ETF) called for simplified administrative procedures in the maritime transport sector. These organisations argue that the Reporting Formalities Directive 2010/65/EU applicable to vessels entering or leaving the ports of member states has not achieved the expected results and, on the contrary, has increased red tape due to implementation of different solutions by member states. The organisations also welcome the launch by the Commission of an impact study on the European Maritime Single Window on 28 July last and are hoping that an ambitious proposal will be presented next spring. (LT)
