10/11/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 8 November, the Committee of Permanent Representatives to the EU (Coreper) approved the draft compromise presented by the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the EU on the European Solidarity Corps. European education ministers will be requested to approve this text on Monday 20 November. It should be noted that the European Solidarity Corps is a European initiative that proposes the possibility of participating in voluntary work or the implementation of professional projects underpinned by a work contract for young people aged between 18 and 30 (see EUROPE 11798). The compromise text highlights that this initiative must not encroach on funding for other European programmes, such as Erasmus+ and Horizon 2020. It adds that young people in third countries who are already eligible under the terms of the Erasmus + programme can also participate in the European Solidarity Corps. (SPj)
