10/11/2017 (Agence Europe) – In a press release on Thursday 9 November, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) welcomed the European Commission proposal on bus and coach transport as part of the second “mobility” package presented on Wednesday 8 November (see EUROPE 11900). The IRU sees the liberalisation of this kind of transport and the reduction in administrative red tape as a “positive development”. The organisation also considers that the Commission has finally recognised, “the importance of bus and coach transport and its environmental and social benefits”. The IRU is, however, calling for the liberalisation of this sector to continue to protect public service contracts and passengers’ interests. (LT)
