25/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 25 October, the European Commission announced that Italy would be receiving €1.2 billion from the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) in the next few days, following a European Commission proposal in June in response to the raft of earthquakes that have hit the country. The Commission also announced the first early payment of around €135,000 to Greece (of a total of some €1.35 million, according to calculations by the Greek authorities), following earthquakes on the islands of Chios and Lesbos. The Commission reserves the right to adjust the aid when it has assessed Greece’s request, which will need the approval of the European Parliament and Council. (PH)
