17/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – President of the Environment Council Siim Kissler and European Climate Action and Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete are representing the EU at the pre-COP 23 ministerial conference in Nadi, the capital of Fiji on 17 and 18 October. Fiji, a small island state in the Pacific particularly vulnerable to climate change, will chair COP 23, in Bonn, 6-17 November. The discussions will provide ministers with the opportunity to exchange views on political priorities and expectations for the forthcoming UN climate negotiations conference at which progress will be sought on how to take forward implementation of the Paris climate agreement. Climate action financing to support the efforts of the poorest and most vulnerable countries and the 2018 facilitative dialogue are priorities of the negotiating position the EU has just agreed in the last Environment Council (see EUROPE 11883).
