Commission critical of restrictions on export of electricity last winter

Short periods of cold weather in most of Europe significantly increased the demand for electricity, resulting in high wholesale market prices in January 2017 but higher than usual temperatures in February and March caused wholesale electricity prices to decrease, according to the latest quarterly report on EU electricity markets published by the Commission on Thursday 20 July.
