12/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 9 June, the European Commission launched a consultation to prepare the balance sheet for the current strategy supporting in the outermost regions, adopted in 2012 and to work on the priorities in the updated strategy due for presentation this autumn. The Commission indicated that it would also take into account the memorandum presented by the Presidents of the Outermost Regions last March (see EUROPE 11764). This is a very important dossier for the outermost regions, which, due to their geographical situation, contain very specific characteristics. The European Parliament is currently working on an own initiative report to improve respect for the derogated status of the outermost regions highlighted in article 349 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (see EUROPE 11799).
