12/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 9 June, United States Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced that the negotiations on the reunification of Cyprus between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders, Nicos Anastasiades and Mustafa Akinci respectively, would resume in Geneva on Wednesday 28 June. Anastasiades, Akinci and Guterres had agreed on the negotiations resuming, after several weeks of deadlock (see EUROPE 11802), when they met in New York on 4 June. Guterres had said in New York that Anastasiades and Akinci should decide if they would agree on concessions that they had not made previously. He also said that much work remained to be done. As well as security and guarantees, Anastasiades and Akinci are expected to discuss issues regarding territory, ownership, governance and power-sharing. The negotiations were relaunched in May 2015.
