The optimisation of renewable energy policies, energy efficiency and the introduction of clean energy related technologies and innovations will be at the heart of the Eighth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8) and the Second Mission Innovation Ministerial (MI-2) in Beijing, China, on 6–8 June 2017.
The CEM forum is a partnership that brings together the most advanced economies in the world (South Africa, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, South Korea, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, Spain, US, Finland, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, United Kingdom, Russia and Sweden) in addition to the EU. Together, these countries are responsible for more than 75% of greenhouse gas emissions and 90% of global investment in clean energies.
The aim of the CEM forum is to leverage high-level political will and private sector leadership to drive ambitious, real-world clean energy policies and actions.
This meeting will be attended by the Vice President of the European Commission in charge of the Energy Union, Maroš Šefcovic, on behalf of the EU. It will be the first major ministerial meeting on energy at a multilateral level since US President, Donald Trump, announced that the US would be withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement (see EUROPE 11801).
