06/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 5 June, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini called for cooperation and dialogue between the Gulf countries. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt have broken off relations with Qatar, accusing it of destabilising the region and supporting terrorism. "Regional cooperation and dialogue is the way to maintain a cooperative approach (...) We hope any further escalation of the situation can be avoided and any issues can be solved through dialogue and political talks", Mogherini said on the sidelines of a meeting in Mali. "Cooperation among them, with each of them, them with us, is key for the security in the region and beyond", she said, adding that the EU wanted to "maintain excellent relations with each country in the region".
