06/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 31 May, the GSA Agency and the European GNSS Service Centre announced that two additional satellites in the European space geo-location service, Galileo, will soon be operational. This will mean that the Galileo constellation will have 16 operational satellites. The two satellites launched into orbit last November will help to strengthen the initial services launched at the end of 2016, explained the agency in a press release (see EUROPE 11672). The constellation will be completed by 2020. During the most recent Competitiveness Council, the Commissioner for the Internal Market and Industry, Elżbieta Bieńkowska, welcomed the current success of the programme, despite the technical incidents that previously affected several atomic clocks in certain satellites (see EUROPE 11798).
