06/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 5 June, the President of Eurospace, Jean-Loïc Galle, sent a letter to the European Commissioner for Climate Action, Miguel Arias Cañete following the announcement made by US President, Donald Trump, that his country would be withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement. The aim of this letter is to: highlight the space sector's role in fighting climate change, particularly in the monitoring of CO2 emissions. Mr Galle also emphasised that the importance of the Copernicus programme and the future of the Sentinel 7 mission for CO2 emissions follow-up (expected to be operational by 2025), as well as the European Operational Observing System to Monitor Fossil CO2. In this context, Mr Galle proposed to the Commissioner that they meet together so that he could present the Commissioner with an outline of how space technologies could help in fighting climate change.
