Calendar and actors for European Parliament initiative report on whistleblowers take shape

The calendar and list of shadow European Parliament rapporteurs on the own initiative on whistleblowers have been drawn up, according to an internal source speaking on Monday 8 May.

According to our source, a first exchange of views is planned for the legal affairs committee session on 29 and 30 May next. A hearing will be organised during the June meeting and a provisional version of the report will be presented on 7 September. The committee vote is planned for 29 September. This is, however, a provisional calendar and changes may follow.

Time, however, is running out for the MEPs, given that the report has to be adopted before the European Commission presents its initiative. It is looking likely that this will be before the end of the year.

The French delegation in Parliament will have the most influence on this text. It should be recalled that following the lengthy and sometimes hostile negotiations between the S&D and ALDE groups, Virginie Rozière (S&D, France) was appointed the final rapporteur on the text (see EUROPE 11767).

The shadow rapporteurs include the former unfortunate candidate who pushed through the text, Jean-Marie Cavada (ALDE, France), Constance Le Grip (EPP, France), who was also the rapporteur on the very controversial “Business secrecy” Directive (see EUROPE 11532), Kostas Chrysogonos (GUE/NGL, Greece) and Laura Ferrara (EFDD, Italy).  (Original version in French by Pascal Hansens)
