On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome, Copa and Cogeca, the farming and agri-cooperative organisations in the EU, stated on Friday 24 March that the treaties had achieved their objectives “in ensuring peace and prosperity across Europe as well as safe and abundant food supplies, thanks to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP)”.
Copa President Martin Merrild said in a press release that a united Europe must bridge societal divides and bring growth beyond the urban areas.
With strong policies like the CAP and the EU’s trade policy, “we have managed to ensure that consumers have a good supply of safe, secure, quality food supplies at affordable prices for 500 million consumers in the EU as well as for a growing world population”, said Cogeca President Thomas Magnusson.
