15/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, has dismissed the idea currently doing the rounds in the United Kingdom that it could be a good thing for the UK if there is no agreement when the time comes for Brexit. “I want to be clear that a 'no deal scenario' would be bad for everyone, but above all for the UK, because it would leave a number of issues unresolved”, he told a debate at the European Parliament on the future of the EU on Wednesday 15 March. Our aim is to secure an amicable divorce, setting in place a good framework for future relations, he added, stressing that the EU will not be intimidated by “threats”. The British government has still not officially asked to leave the European Union, which it is expected to do in the week commencing Monday 27 March (see EUROPE 11744). (MD)
