13/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 9 March, the European Commission published a guidance note on airline passenger rights. This corresponds with a regulation establishing common rules on flights that have been significantly delayed or cancelled (regulation 261/2004). This note primarily targets consumers and seeks to provide information on the EU’s legal framework applying to claim agencies in the area of passenger rights. The Commission therefore informs consumers that it is preferable, initially, that they prioritise contact with the handler and the procedures in the regulation on extrajudicial litigation. The note also highlights the obligations incumbent on claim agencies with regard to providing information. (PH)
