13/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – During this weeks' plenary session, the European Parliament will inaugurate two new elements introduced by its new rules. The first innovation allows any political group to request a debate (of one hour twenty minutes) on any topical theme of its choice, with the two big political groups taking the lion's share with the possibility for each to request three debates. It is within this framework that a debate on security (a year after the Brussels terrorist attacks) will take place at 3.00pm on Wednesday 15 March, at the request of the EPP Group. The second innovation, known as "major interpellation", consists of allowing MEPs to ask the Commission oral questions on urgent issues on Thursday afternoons. (AN)
