06/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 4 March, the Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc, welcomed the adoption the previous day by the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) of the standardisation for CO² emissions in the aviation sector. According to the Commissioner, this adoption will help prevent almost 650 million tons of CO² entering the atmosphere by 2040 and pave the way to a greening of the aviation sector. This is a particular source of satisfaction to the Commissioner, who again repeated the leading role provided by the Union in the negotiations that led to the agreement. She also indicated on this occasion that progress had been accomplished on Global Market-Based Measures as defined last October (see EUROPE 11641). (PH)
