06/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – In a press release issued on Saturday 4 March, the French MEPs of the EPP group Arnaud Danjean, Françoise Grossetête, Alain Lamassoure, Renaud Muselier and Tokia Saïfi announced that they were withdrawing their support from François Fillon's campaign for the French presidential elections. They expressed regret that revelations regarding Fillon's personal situation and contradictory reactions show the candidate to have nothing to say about France's problems and argue that Fillon's withdrawl from a section of his own camp has called the unity of their political family into question. They add: "we are therefore withdrawing from François Fillon's campaign and hope that our movement will soon be able to appoint a candidate who will allow the values of the Right and Centre to prevail" (our translation). On Monday 6 March, Alain Juppé, who came second in the primaries of the party Les Républicains, announced that he would not be standing. (MB)
