23/01/2017 (Agence Europe) – There has been a new development in the copyright field: the S&D group is preparing to appoint a new rapporteur on the draft “cab-sat” regulation for promoting the cross-border provision of online services. Due to the current game of mid-mandate musical chairs at the European Parliament, the rapporteur appointed in October 2016, is expected to become a full member of the Civil Liberties Committee (LIBE) and will remain a simple alternate member of the Culture and Education Committee (CULT) responsible for the subject. According to the information we have received, the process for appointing a new rapporteur is continuing at the S&D. It should be pointed out that the regulation proposed consists in facilitating the acquisition of rights for radio broadcasting and retransmission services and bodies provided on the close network by introducing the country of origin principle and rules on mandatory collective management.
