23/01/2017 (Agence Europe) – Meeting in Koblenz on Saturday 21 January, a number of leaders of far-right parties – Frauke Petry of Germany of the AFD, Marine Le Pen of France of the Front National, Italy's Matteo Salvini of the Lega Nord and Geert Wilders of the Netherlands for the Dutch PVV party – reaffirmed their belief that the national elections to be held in March in the Netherlands, May in France and September in Germany are an opportunity to put an end to the European Union as it currently exists. "2016 was the year the Anglo-Saxon world woke up. I have no doubt that 2017 will be the wake-up year of the people of continental Europe", Le Pen said (our translation throughout). She went on to say that if she comes to power, "we will be able to work together for a rational abandonment of the old order". Wilders said that "the genie is out of the bottle for me: there's no getting it back in". (MB)
