EU repeats its commitment to counter-terrorism

23/01/2017 (Agence Europe)Pakistan was hit by a bombardment on Saturday 21 January, the same day as the European External Action Service (EEAS) announced that the EU would continue to work closely in close cooperation with the country to counter the global terrorist threat.  The bombing of a market in Parachinar that killed at least 25 and injured more than 80 others underscores once more the need to build strong international ties in the fight against terrorism, said an EEAS spokesperson in a press release.  Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a large jihadi terrorist group, said it carried out the attack.  The EEAS spokesperson said that in the past, Parachinar had been hit by sectarian violence, the most recent outbreak being in 2015, when 25 people were killed.  The town is a Shiia enclave in the predominantly Sunni Pakistan. (CG)
