18/01/2017 (Agence Europe) – There are now just 366.1 million allocations left in the New Entrants Reserve that are eligible for free allocation up to 2020 as part of the EU’s Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), according to the latest update published by the European Commission on 16 January. In the third trading period of the EU ETS, new installations and installations that increase their capacity are eligible for free allocation from the New Entrants' Reserve. Until now, the initial New Entrants' Reserve held 480.2 million allowances. 114.1 million allowances have been reserved for 527 installations for the entirety of the third trading period. This leaves 76.2% of the initial New Entrants' Reserve to be distributed to new installations on an annual basis. The table on the allocation of allowances from the New Entrants' Reserve will be updated again in July 2017. (AN)
