According to the latest figures published by the European Commission on Wednesday 18 January, the monthly value of the EU's agri-food exports reached a new record level of €11.7 billion in November 2016 – in other words, €813 million more than in November 2015.
Given the slight fall in agri-food imports from third countries, the EU recorded a surplus of €19 billion in its agri-food trade over 12 months.
Agri-food exports to the USA (+€1.5 billion, +8%) and China (+€1.1 billion, +11%) enabled significant gains over the period from December 2015 to November 2016.
The pig meat sector also confirms its recovery. The highest increase in export value over the last 12 months was recorded for pork (€+1.3 billion, in other words a 34% increase compared to export values in the 12-month period one year ago).
This report, published on Wednesday 18 January, focuses on EU agri-food trade with Ecuador at the occasion of the provisional entry into force, on 1 January, of the protocol of accession of Ecuador to the multipartite free trade agreement between the EU and two of the four Andean countries (Colombia and Peru). The EU is the third largest trading partner for the Andean countries, the Commission states.
