19/12/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 14 December, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the review of the regulation setting out common rules for obtaining access to the international market in coach and bus transport services (regulation 1073/2009). This consultation is open until 15 March 2017 and provides specific questionnaires for either citizens or sector specialists. Its goal is to identify shortcomings in current EU legislation. During the ex-post evaluation of the 2009 regulation, sector companies highlighted the difficulties they experienced in obtaining market share compared to other modes of transport, as well as limited competition in the sector. The Commission is seeking to use an impact study to find out whether it is necessary to introduce new draft legislation in this regard. (PH)
