05/12/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 5 December, six MEPs from the EPP Group called on European Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc for clarification regarding the agreement between Germany and the Commission on draft German legislation for road charging that was announced last week (see EUROPE 11680). The six MEPs – Pascal Arimont (Belgium), Georges Bach (Luxembourg), Elżbieta Łukacijewska (Poland), Claudia Schmidt (Austria), Pavel Svoboda (Czech Republic) and Wim van de Camp (Netherlands) – consider that the draft legislation, despite its amendments, remains "essentially discriminatory". The six MEPs intend to lodge a parliamentary question this week and hope to have a reply from Bulc at the start of January. Arimont called on Belgium to appeal to the EU Court of Justice, in the same way as Austria and the Netherlands. (PH)
