EU agriculture ministers are to discuss the future shape of the common agricultural policy (CAP) after expiry of the 2014-2020 multiannual financial framework (see EUROPE 11615).
Ministers will hold their discussion on the post-2020 CAP at a working lunch in Brussels on Tuesday 15 November. Elsewhere, ministers will be briefed on the report from the agricultural markets working party which will contain recommendations on strengthening the position of farmers on the food supply chain (see EUROPE 11631).
On Tuesday 8 November, the European Parliament’s agriculture committee will discuss the future of the CAP at a workshop articulated around three studies: one on direct payments (carried out by Irish academics and experts), a second (French) study on market measures and risk management, and a third (Austrian and British) on rural development (see EUROPE 11659).
Tools to reduce price volatility. The Parliament agriculture committee will also vote on 8 November on the report by Angélique Delahaye (EPP, France) on CAP tools to reduce price volatility on agricultural markets (see EUROPE 11612). Delahaye recommends action in three areas: - structuring sectors by means of contracts; - guaranteeing income through mutual funds subsidised/guaranteed by the European Commission; - market transparency by means of observatories and European reference price indicators.
