On Monday 7 November, the eurozone finance ministers will be brought up to date with the state of progress in the work of the second monitoring mission of the institutions (Commission, ECB, IMF, ESM) in Greece.
On Friday, a senior European official said that an agreement on this second mission would be needed before talks can start on debt relief, as the reforms to be agreed upon in the framework of this mission will have an impact that needs to be taken into account in the analysis of the viability of the Greek debt. An agreement on this second mission by the end of the year, more specifically at the Eurogroup meeting of 5 December, will be tough but possible, according to the same official, who went on to say that it would not be a disaster if the parties were unable to agree.
At this Monday's Eurogroup, the ministers will also discuss a post-programme monitoring report for Cyprus, where challenges remain, particularly non-performing bank loans. They will also be informed of the state of progress in negotiations on the possible reunification of the island.
Lastly, the ministers will hear from Elke Koening, the chair of the Single Resolution Board of the banks, and Danièle Nouy of the Single Supervisory Mechanism for banks. (Original version in French by Élodie Lamer)
