EU co-finances two Italian patrol ships for rescue of shipwrecked refugees and migrants off the Mediterranean coast

27/10/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 27 October, the European Commission gave the go-ahead to a project co-financed with Italy for two patrol ships.  The the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRD) will provide funding of €94 million (of a total cost of €124.5 million).  The two ships will take part in missions to rescue shipwrecked refugees and migrants who otherwise would tragically die in the Mediterranean.  The project follows an amendment to Italy’s 2007-13...
