On Thursday 27 October, MEPs announced their firm support for the operation launched by Iraq to liberate Mosul from so-called Islamic State (Daesh) (see EUROPE 11649).
In a joint resolution, the ECR, EFDD, S&D, ALDE and EPP Groups stated that this operation is a decisive part of the current global efforts being made to inflict a sustainable defeat on Daesh. The resolution on the situation in Northern Iraq and Mosul was passed by 488 votes to 11, with 128 abstentions.
