09/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - CJEU rejects claims for compensation from Zimbabwean deputy minister sanctioned by EU. In a ruling handed down on Wednesday 9 December (Case C-545/14), the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) rejected the appeal by Aguy Clement Georgias, a business man and deputy minister of Zimbabwe's government, who had been subjected to sanctions from the EU in 2002 along with other members of the government. The CJEU thus confirmed a previous judgment of the General Court of the EU (see EUROPE 11158). It also ruled that Aguy Clement Georgias and his companies could not claim damages due to the inconveniences suffered (transit through the USA and entry onto British territory were refused in 2007) as a result of the restrictive measures adopted against them.
