Agreement on AEI signed with San Marino

Brussels, 09/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 9 December, the EU and San Marino signed an agreement spelling the end of banking secrecy between them, with the automatic exchange of information (AEI) to be set in place from 2017 on the financial accounts of the residents of each. This agreement reflects the global OECD standard on the automatic exchange of information. Under this new agreement, the member states will receive the names, addresses, tax ID numbers and dates of birth of their residents with accounts in San Marino, and other information on their financial situations and account balances. San Marino will be supplied with the same type of information on accounts held by its residents in any member state of the EU. On the same day, the Ecofin Council approved the conclusion of similar agreements with Liechtenstein (see EUROPE 11420) and Switzerland (see EUROPE 11278). Technical negotiations have just concluded with Andorra and are at an advanced stage with Monaco, according to the European Commission. (Original version in French by Elodie Lamer)
