Purchase of Alstom - General Electric prepared to make concessions

Brussels, 12/05/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 11 May, the American giant, General Electric announced that the European Commission had suspended its investigation into its purchase of the activities of Alstom of France on thermic energy, renewable energy and networks, AFP reports.

We are prepared to look into remedies to finalise this operation, but they must preserve the economic foundations of the agreement”, General Electric explained. According to its spokesperson, the American multinational has not yet decided whether it will shed any assets.

The Commission explained that it had requested information from the parties and suspended its investigation on 24 April, as this information had not been forthcoming. “The Commission has now received the information requested from the parties and the new legal deadline for a decision is 21 August”, it announced on Tuesday 12 May, in response to a question from EUROPE.
