Brussels, 30/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has addressed a reasoned opinion (second stage of the infringements procedure) to the Czech Republic, asking it to bring its legislation in line with EU telecoms rules, in particular with the authorisation directive.
The Czech legal system requires telecoms operators to apply for registration in the Commercial Register as well as to establish an office in the Czech Republic in order to be able to provide electronic communications services, contrary to what the EU's authorisation directive states. This requirement by the Czech authorities makes it more difficult for a foreign operator to provide telecoms services in the country. The Commission also has concerns that notification requirement applicable to telecoms operators go beyond what can be imposed in view of the maximum harmonisation provided by EU law in this regard. The Commission now awaits a response from the Czech authorities within the next two months. (Isabelle Lamberty)
