Brussels, 30/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament believes that the European Higher Education Area must be further developed. During a plenary session on Tuesday 28 April, MEPs adopted the report by Krystyna Lybacka (S&D, Poland) on implementation of the Bologna Process by 557 votes in favour, 119 against, with 16 abstentions.
Bologna Process aims to create a European Higher Education Area in 2020. In total, 47 countries are participating in this process.
The resolution indicates that although over the course of the past 15 years, there has been progress regarding quality, mobility and mutual recognition of qualifications between universities and, at a general level, greater transparency, there are still a number of areas that require further development. The Parliament therefore emphasises that it is therefore crucial to revive the process in an effort to respond to the new challenges facing higher education in Europe, by putting more emphasis on transparency and quality.
