Brussels, 30/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - During a debate on Thursday 30 April, MEPs criticised the latest executions in Indonesia, reiterating their opposition to the death penalty. During the night of 28-29 April, eight people were executed - including seven foreigners - for drugs trafficking. On behalf of the EPP Group, Arnaud Danjean from France called on European leaders to do more. “This issue is essential for European nationals”, he added. Four Europeans are still waiting on death row. According to European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica, these executions have been a “disappointment” and a point of “dismay” for the EU and the international community. The previous day, the EU said it was ready to offer political support and practical help to Indonesia in the fight against drugs trafficking. (Camille-Cerise Gessant)
